Wally was a very special person. We were involved with him with music and just as a friend. He was a very wise person as Jerry has mentioned many times in dealing with Wally with Frozen Fingers or any kind of organization. We will miss him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Holter family. I am the other male graduate of Norma High School. We were basketball team mates for two years. We entered the Renville County Playday in Mohall where Wally entered the baseball throw and won a ribbon. We had a good laugh over this because only two others had entered the event! Wally took the third place ribbon without throwing the ball. I will miss this friend of long ago. Jim and Audrey Britsch

Dear family:
Our love and sympathy to all of you. Wally played and sang with "The Good Old Boys" which my falther, Don Grilley, played violin in. He was always so kind and gentle and we waited for him to always close their hour of playing at the Manor Care, where my Dad lived the last 3 1/2 years with "Amazing Grace". The night before Dad's funeral, Ernie and I were here alone and Wally came to the door. The love and respect he voiced for Dad and the comfort we received from his visit will never be forgotten. We cherish his memory. Ernie & Rosalie Malnaa

From: Ingjerd Stulen

In memory of my dear friend Wally.

It was the Norsk Høstfest that brought me to Minot, ND for the first time in 1996. I came alone, all the way from Norway. I remember so well both Wally and Gladys at the office the day I arrived.

Wally, you were the very first friend I got in Minot! And you were special to me ever since. How can I ever forget how great both you and Gladys were to me? The two of you are the reason why I fell in love with Minot. It meant the world to me that day, and I remember that day as if it was yesterday.
I had not been there for very long before you and I went across the street for a decaff coffee and a cigarette. I have a picture of the two of us taken that first day. I ll treasure that picture Wally.

We often had little breaks together while working with the Høstfest that fall. One time you said to me that you found my name so hard to pronounce. You had found a new name you said, and you just renamed me Peggy Sue! We have had lots of fun with that. You were serious about it though and you called me Peggy Sue ever since. By this day there are people in Minot that know me only as Peggy Sue.

I came back to Minot again and again, and we always had our coffee, our good chats. You told me about your family, you were so proud of everyone Wally. You told me where you used to work and when you and Gladys got married. You were such a wonderful couple. We all had great dinners at the Moose, and lots of fun and good laughs. How can I ever forget when you went on stage at the Moose and introduced me? I was single then and you asked for everyones cooperation in gathering bachelors for me to meet next time I came. How much fun that was! I have so many great memories to thank you for Wally.

Then some years went by where I was not in Minot. Then, this last fall, my husband and I finally made the trip to Minot. I was looking so much forward to see you again and my husband was so excited to finally meet you. It was just great to see you again. At the same time I was sad to see you sick. Still, you made my stay full of memorable moments again Wally. Both Bjørn and I are so thankful for that.

Our last chat on the phone was the day before you passed away. I got the news that you were in hospital and I just had to call. You were doing better you told me, and you expected to be home the next day. It was chocking and so unbelievably sad to receive the phonecall that informed me you had passed away. My tears keep running.

Wally, thank you for making my trips to Minot so special, thank you for all the good chats and great laughs, thank you for all the memorable moments to treasure.
Thank you for your friendship. You will be greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are now with all your loved ones in this time of grief.
My deepest sympathies are with you all.

Sincerely,
Ingjerd Stulen,
Norway

The Wallace Holter Family

I met Wally when volunteering at the Norsk Hostfest. I was new to the City of Minot and he was very helpful in getting me acquainted. We shared a love of music and he encouraged me to play my keyboard at every opportunity. May God be with you in your sorrow, brighten every new tomorrow, free your hearts of grief and care and leave just treasured memories there. Friend, Lora

To the Holter kids,

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your father, followed so closely by the death of your uncle. The neighborhood will greatly miss him. Though I haven't been to Minot much, I always drive by our houses and remember all of the wonderful times we had as children. Your dad and mom were wonderful people and are missed by all. Know that you are all in my thoughts.
