Memories for Thomas
From: Willis Croonquist
As a former State Director for the United Transportation Union,
I enjoyed working with Brother Tom Schimetz. He was always willing
to go the extra mile to help his UTU Brothers and Sisters. Our
thoughts and sympathies go out to Bobbi and his children

Was very sorry to hear of Tom's passing.
Being UTU tres. in Mandan had much interaction with Tom. Tom
was at our unionmeeting a few days before. Will always remmeber
him like he was that day. Very friendly and a pleasure to be
with.

I am a stranger, but I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father and husband. I am interested in Thomas's mother's maiden name. My Great Aunt was also Esther Bakken and she had an aunt, Esther Bakken for whom she was named. My Great-Aunt was born about 1900 and had 1 son in about 1916 who predeceased her in the late '30s or '40s. Strangely, her mother and she lived on the West Coast (near Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Wash.) in 50s and again in the 70s and 80s. I wonder who the parents of Esther Bakken who was (Bakken is a Norwegian name and means "Hill" I believe) the mother of Thomas Shimetz might be. Did they come from Iowa and settle in Wash. as my relatives did?
