Memories for Mary Ellen

From: Mary Nelson - neice

You don't chose your family, they are God's gift to you, as you are to them.

I love this quote because it reminds me of what a wonderful gift Mary Ellen was to me, her family and anyone who knew her. Her love, kindness and wonderful sense of humor, drew people to her and made those around her feel special. I will truly miss this extraordinary lady - Mary

I'm sorry to hear about Mary Ellen. You have my sympathy. Mary Ellen was my second grade teacher in 1949 at Douglas School #3. There were five students in the fall but only two during the winter, Loretta Wollmuth and myself. The winter was hard and the old school was cold and drafty. We parked ourselves on top of the furnace register, Loretta on one side and me on the other. We both profited from some very personal attention. The school was only 8 months; our picnic was indoors April 30 due to a blizzard outdoors. Dad got stuck driving us to the schoolhouse. Mary Ellen was one of my Mom's students at School #1. Check the Douglas Centennial Book for a picture of her and her brothers. I'm glad she was there to help me get started off.She will be missed.

Liz, Denny and Sophia,

Henry and I are so saddened by the news of your Mom's death. We know that you will miss her very much, but we are so glad that you have such wonderful memories of both your Mom and Dad. Its really hard loosing your parents and especially so close together. Although we could not be there for the service, we had you in our thoughts and prayers and will continue to keep you there. You Mom was a special person and we can only imagine how much she loved you and how much you miss her. Remember that God will sustain you in the sad days ahead.

Love, Mildred and Henry
