Johnny Harold Zietz 1926 - 2003 Johnny Harold Zietz, 76, 1432 South Main St., Minot, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 in a Veterans Home in Fort Meade, SD. He was born July 21, 1926, in Lansford, ND, the son of Benjamin F. and Bertha M. (Spitzack) Zietz. He was reared and educated in the Lansford area. As a junior in High School, Johnny was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He served during World War II from February 14, 1945 until being honorably discharged on March 30, 1946. He returned to Lansford and helped out on the family farm. He married Viola Ruby Wagner on October 14, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot. They lived in Minot for a time before moving to Burlington where they lived until moving back to Minot in July of 1984. He worked as an electrician for the Local 714. He was a Master Electrician at one time and worked for various companies in the Minot and surrounding areas. He retired in 1985. In November of 1988, he entered the Fort Meade Veterans Home, Fort Meade, SD. He was residing there at the time of his death. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and currently held membership at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot, where he served as an elder. When they lived in Burlington, he was active in the PTA, coached baseball and basketball and organized a Cub Scout group. Johnny enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Survivors: wife, Viola, Minot; sons, John (Susan), Richard (Abby Dickinson), all of Minot; Tim (Gayla), Des Lacs, Terry, Fargo, Tracy (Serena) Minot and Randal (Margie) Burlington; 16 grandchildren, Jason, Jared and Jordan, Melissa and Jesse, Chad Zietz and Tonya Warren, Breanna, Jacinta, Natasha and Shanta Zietz and Craig, Cole, Nicholas, Noah and Tobias Zietz; six great-grandchildren, Britney, Alexandria, Zachary, Caitlyn, MaKenna, Alexa and Brody; brothers, Lester (Lenore), Underwood and Eugene (JoAnn), Minot; sisters, Lillian Erickson, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Fern (Edward) Bradway, Ridgecrest, California and several nieces and nephews. An infant daughter, Juliann, son, Mitchell, his parents, sisters, Doris Schimmelphenning, Violet Weeks, Bernie Bryntson and Elnore Swor and brothers, Donald, Arlo, Vernon and Chester Zietz preceded him in death. Funeral: Monday, June 23, 2003 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
