Archie Zahursky 1932 - 2010
Archie Zahursky, 78, Minot, ND, formerly of Max, ND, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services in Minot.
Archie was born March 29, 1932, on the family farm near Max, ND, to George and Nellie (Hubsky) Zahursky. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural school in Rushville Township and graduated from Max High School in 1949. He attended Minot State College and taught at a rural school near Ryder.
In 1953, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then worked at the Garrison Dam project and the Minot Air Force Base while he was farming.
Archie was united in marriage with Mavis M. Helmers on March 11, 1960, in Minot. They resided at the family farm where they raised their five children and continued the farming operation. Besides his farming interest, Archie owned and operated AZ Tax Service in Minot for 35 years. They retired from farming and moved to Minot in 1993 and continued the tax business until 1997.
Archie was a member of American Legion Post 241. He served on the Rushville Township Board. He was currently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot, where he participated as an usher and a member of Forever Young, and Caring for One Another bible study groups. A former member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Max, Archie served in various offices for the church and parish.
During his retirement Archie stayed very active by helping at the farm, spending time with his family, attending grandchildren’s activities, reading, traveling, visiting, playing cards with family and friends, and fishing with his buddies.
Those most honored to share in his life are his wife of 50 years, Mavis, Minot; daughters, Rochel (Mark) Wagner, Grafton, Renae (Lorell) Jungling, Mandan, and Anita (Greg) Hoffman, Bismarck; son, Allan (Deborah) Zahursky, Max; grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth) Wagner, Jacob Wagner, Jared (Laura) Wagner, Ryne (Rachel) Jungling, Reid Jungling, Alexis Hoffman, Kaden Hoffman, Ericka Germain, Dustin Germain, Tanner Germain, and Jayce Zahursky; sisters, Betty Brewer, Minot, Debbie Vavra, Spokane, WA, and JoAnn (Gene) Zahursky-Klein, Mandan; brother, Arnold Zahursky, Minot; sister-in-law; Marian Duff, Jamestown; brothers-in-law, Scott Hagen, Seattle, WA, and Bruce Cole, Spokane, WA. Numerous nieces, nephew and cousins also survive.
Archie was preceded in death by son, Ardean; parents; brother, Bennie; sisters, Joyce Hagen, and Beatrice Cole; brother-in-law, Ernest Duff; sister-in-law, Peggy Zahursky; nephews, Rodney Zahursky, Brady Zahursky, and Sidney Zahursky.
Funeral: Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
