Lillian Montana Zahn 1915- 2006 Lillian was born September 2, 1915, the daughter of Emanuel and Pauline (Strobel) Vossler, in Montana. She was reared and educated in the Wishek, ND area, graduating form Wishek High School and the Ellendale College. In 1939, she was united in marriage to Ernest Zahn . They made their home in the Forbes, ND area, until 1949, when Ernest started a career with the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service. They then moved to Hettinger, New Salem, Granville, Norwich, Grace City, and finally in 1966, settling in Velva. Lillian taught in Grace City and Velva for many years. She retired from teaching in the 1970's. Following retirement, she worked for the McHenry County Extension service as a food nutritionist. They were married for 62 years before Ernest died October 20, 2001. Following his death she lived in Velva, before moving to McVille and entering the Nelson County Care Center in 2003. Lillian was involved in Senior Citizens, 4-H, Silver Haired Legislature, and was an organist at the church. She loved to quilt, crochet, and oil paint; many of the painting adorn her family's homes. Lillian will be fondly remembered by her children, She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters Freda Martin, Jeanette Zahn, and brothers Gideon and Leroy.
