Doris Elaine Youngbeck
• 1921 - 2003 Doris Elaine Youngbeck, 82, formerly of Minot, died Wednesday December 10, 2003 at the Mankato Lutheran Home in Mankato, MN. Elaine was born on October 16, 1921 in Minot, the oldest of five children born to George and Helen (Fisk) Valker, Sr. She was raised in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1939. She then attended Minot State Teachers College for two years and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 1943. She was employed as an airline stewardess for American Airlines from 1943 until 1946 . She was united in marriage to John Melvin Youngbeck, Sr. on August 25, 1950 in Minot where they both were employed as teachers in the Minot Public School System and raised their three children. Elaine retired in l987. John died May 3, 1993. Elaine was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of Ruth Circle and served as a Deacon. She was an active member of the North Dakota Teacher's Association and the Minot Quilter's Guild. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, baking and traveling. Elaine was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She is survived by her sons, John M. Youngbeck, Jr., Custer, SD; Gerald F Youngbeck, Minot ; daughter, Mary (Charles) Draper, Mankato, MN; granddaughter, Elizabeth Draper and grandson, Alexander Draper, Mankato; brother, Bill (Agnes) Valker; sister, Mary (Bob) Janicki; sister-in-law, Miyoko Valker and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, and her brothers, George Valker Jr. and John F. Valker and nephews, George Valker,III and Bryan Valker. Visitation: Thompson Larson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14th from 2:00PM to 4:00 PM Funeral: Monday, December 15, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bob Edwards officiating Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. Music Active Bearers: John M. Youngbeck Jr., Gerald F. Youngbeck, Charles Draper, Alex Draper, Ryan Heintz, Bill Valker and Bob Janicki Honorary Bearers: Elaine's beloved family, her professional colleagues in education, her community of friends, neighbors and especially her church family at First Presbyterian.
