Glenn D. Wunderlich 1929 - 2010

Glenn was born November 8, 1929 in Velva, ND to Walter and Esther (Bartz) Wunderlich.  He attended rural grade school in Olivia Township and graduated from Velva High School in 1948.

After high school, Glenn remained in Olivia Township and farmed with his father and brother Vernon.  He married Lois Hammer in June of 1958 and continued living on the family farm where they raised five children.

He was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church and served on the church council.  He was also a member of the Velva Community Clinic Board, the Voltaire Elevator Board, the Velva Lions where he served as district governor, and the Minot State University Board of Regents.  He served on the McHenry County Water Resource Board, the McHenry County Commission, the First District Health Unit Board, and St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board.

Glenn loved farming with his brother, Vernon and son, Dennis.  He retired from farming after 47 years, but his love of farming and the outdoors continued through gardening when he moved into Velva.  Glenn and Lois opened their home to numerous foreign exchange students over the years which he enjoyed.  His love of travel took him all over the world.  He loved being surrounded by his family, especially during the holidays.

Those who shared in his life, loving wife of 52 years, Lois, Velva, ND; sons, Dale (Cathy) Wunderlich, Lisbon, ND, Dennis (Janelle) Wunderlich, Voltaire, ND; daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Gemmill, Beulah, ND, Donna Wunderlich, Bismarck, ND, and Deneen (Steve) Tangsrud, Arvada, CO; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Wunderlich, Minot, ND, Brent (Rebekah) Wunderlich, Richfield, MN, Kelsey, Shelby and Allison Wunderlich, all of Voltaire, ND, Jarod, Amber and Derek Wunderlich, all of Fargo, ND, Nicole and Nathan Gemmill of Grand Forks, ND, Grant Sundquist, Bismarck, ND and Nicholas and Stephanie Tangsrud, Arvada, CO; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Eugene Wunderlich, Minot, ND, Donald (Ursula) Wunderlich, Voltaire, ND and Dr. Walter (Annis) Wunderlich, Tucson, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts, Viola Stange, Aberdeen, SD and Myrtle Funston, Sioux Falls, SD and several cousins.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther, brother, Vernon, and grandson, Evan Sundquist.

Funeral:  Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation and prayer service: Monday, October 4, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva, ND.

Burial:  Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Memorials are preferred to Oak Valley Lutheran Church Growth Fund.

Everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall.  Those not attending the graveside are asked to begin the meal and the family will join you when they return from the cemetery.
