George W. Wolff 1917 - 2003

George W. Wolff, 84, 5743 Norwich Road, Norwich, ND, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, in Trinity Nursing Home, Minot.

He was born on March 5, 1917, in Tacoma Township, Bottineau County, near Russell, ND, the son of Leonard and Louise (Thoms) Wolff. He was raised and educated in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School. He attended the ND State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, and later graduated from the Commercial Trades Institute, Chicago, IL. He also attended the Edison Technical School in Seattle, WA. He worked for the Boeing Corporation for a time in Seattle. He returned to North Dakota, and went to work for Cardinal Petroleum Company, and worked in the oil fields for 12 years. He moved to Minot and worked for Dakota Meats. He married Margaret (Skalicky) Nielsen on December 16, 1966, in Minot, ND, where they lived and raised their family. He then went to work for the Minot Daily News, where he was in the plant maintenance department for many years until his retirement in the middle 1980's. His wife, Margaret died on July 31, 2000.

George was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, and was very involved with church functions and his faith. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Aerie and the Senior Citizens, all of Minot. George was an avid gardener and meticulous yard keeper. He loved and enjoyed his garden and flower beds, those which he and Margaret planted and nurtured each season. He and Margaret spent many evenings dancing during their marriage. You could always count on him having "one" up his sleeve.

Those who shared in his life: Daughters, Mary Ann Palmer, Seattle, WA, and Barbara Bohnenkamp and husband Jim, Gwinner, ND; eight grandchildren, Rose Marie Palmer and husband Geoff Pfander, Monica Axelson, Robert Palmer, Kristina Huebschwerlen, Julie Ann Montgomery and husband Mark, Brenda Dauner and husband Scott, Becky Bohnenkamp and Barbara Brewer and husband Tom; 12 great-grandchildren, Danny Wilton Jr., Jacob Walker, Matthew and Justin Palmer, Sophia and Isabelle Pfander, Trevor Huebschwerlen, Cody and Jordan Montgomery, Douglas Bohnenkamp, and Samuel and Zoe Dauner; sister, Inez Christianson, Devils Lake, ND; sister-in-law, Millie Wolff, Port Orchard, WA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. His wife, parents, one brother, Harold (Bud), and one sister, Esther Wheeler, preceded him in death.
