Catherine "Katie"
Woell • 1927 - 2008 Katie Korenic was born in Milwaukee, WI on December 19, 1927 to John and Marie (Uher) Korenic, the ninth of ten children. She was raised and attended school in the Milwaukee area, graduating from Mount Sinai Nursing School in 1949 as a Registered Nurse. On February 14, 1953, Katie married George Woell in Milwaukee. Following their marriage they moved to Minot and together raised their family. Katie worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and Trinity Hospital for many years. She was also a volunteer with Trinity Hospice in Minot. Katie was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, where she sang in the church choir and served as president of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was a strong supporter of St. Leo's Catholic School. Katie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved her family and enjoyed keeping in touch with them by her daily phone calls or her numerous letters. She wrote wonderful letters to her family with beautiful handwriting. She was always very organized and a very generous person. She loved to cook and was very artistic and creative. She passed many of her traits to her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful lady, who will be deeply missed. Those who shared in her life, loving husband of 55 years, George, Minot; children and grandchildren, Cathy (Gary) Walth, Onalaska, WI, and their daughters, Therese and Christine Walth; Mary (William) Flickinger, Moorhead, MN, and their children, Michael, Sarah and David Flickinger; Ann Woell, Moorhead, MN and her daughters, Jacqueline, Katherine and Madeline Murnion; Edward (Lisa Kernek) Woell, Malcomb, Ill, and their daughter, Julia Woell; sisters, Therese Korenic and Mathilda Korenic, both of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Theresa Korenic, Milwaukee, WI; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Katie was preceded in death by her daughter, Therese A. Woell; her parents, John and Marie Korenic; brothers, John, Mike, Leo, Charlie, Frank and Jack Korenic; sister, Mary Riess. Funeral: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Visitation: Monday, (today) September 29, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. loving mother to Cathy, Mary, Ann and Ed, died peacefully on
Sunday morning, September 28, 2008, in a Minot hospital, following
an illness of several months.
