Henry
"Hank" Markus Wiik, 98, Minot, passed away peacefully
on Monday, September 14, 2009, in a Minot nursing home after
a short illness.
Henry was born on March 10, 1911, the son of Henry J. and Martine
K. Wiik of Kenaston, ND.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, devoted wife of 57
years, Marie (Korth) of Kenmare, and siblings Arthur H., Lars,
Arthur P., Agnes, Roald (Roy), Albert and Mavis. He is survived
by his dear sister Ruth Ehlert of St. Paul, MN, several nieces
and nephews and many friends.
Henry proudly served his country as part of the ND 164th Infantry
Regiment. On October 13, 1942 his unit landed on the beach at
Guadalcanal, becoming the first U.S. Army regiment to offensively
engage the enemy during WWII. He received The Presidential Unit
Citation with Star for combat on Guadalcanal.
Henry worked 47 years for the Great Northern Railway (Burlington
Northern / Santa Fe). He retired in 1975.
Henry led a very active life. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening,
bowling, dancing and riding his bicycle - all well into his 90's.
Henry was a life member of the Sons of Norway, The Brotherhood
of Maintenance of Way Employees, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The
American Legion, and the 164th Infantry Association.
He will be sadly missed.
Visitation: Monday, September 21, 2009 one hour prior
to service time at the church.
Funeral Service: Monday, September 21, 2009 at 11 am
at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot
Burial: Monday at 2 at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare,
ND
Memorials are preferred to donors' choice.

Immediately following the funeral service there will be lunch
and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to
meet at the cemetery at 2 pm. There will be a loose procession
leaving the church at 1 pm.
Henry's family would like to thank everyone for the many acts
of kindness shown to them during this difficult time, Your thoughts
and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
