Marilyn Wiest 1944- 2011 Marilyn Rose Ganje was born on August 28, 1944, a daughter of George and Magdelena “Lena” (Piatz) Ganje, in Rugby. She was raised in Fillmore, ND, attended grades one through six in Fillmore. She then attended middle school in Baker, ND, and graduated from Leeds High School in 1962. On April 16, 1966, Marilyn was united in marriage to Joseph Allen Wiest in Selz, ND. In 1970, they moved to Esmond, ND, where Marilyn and Joe raised their family. Marilyn taught CCD classes, served as secretary of the Esmond PTA, and served on the Headstart Board while living in Esmond. In 1980, she was accepted to the Jamestown College Nursing Program. One of her proudest moments was when she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received her R.N. Degree from the Nursing Program from Jamestown College. Following her graduation, she worked as an R.N. at the Anne Carlson School until 1994, when they moved to Harvey, where she worked at the St. Aloisius Medical Center. In 2001, they moved to Velva, where Marilyn worked at the Souris Valley Care Center. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND. Marilyn enjoyed painting, drawing, stained glass work, reading books, gardening, and her flowers. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her loving family includes: husband of 45 years, Joe, Velva; four children: Juliet K. Barr, Minot, Shonah L. (Kevin) Bonogofski, Milnor, ND, Jacqueline M. Metzen, Lisbon, ND, and Christopher G. (Crystal) Wiest, Minot; adopted daughter: Kathy (Sean) Shumacher, Jamestown; eleven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one step granddaughter and two step great-grandchildren; mother, Lena Ganje, Velva; sister, Delilah Sherr, Orrin, ND; brothers, Gary (Vicki) Ganje, Amery, WI, John (Loretta) Ganje, Ruso, ND, Val (Lynnette) Ganje, Bismarck, George (Toni) Ganje, Bismarck; and many nieces, aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was preceded in death by her sons, Jason A. and Keith A. Wiest; father, George Ganje; maternal grandparents, John and Marion Piatz; and paternal grandparents, Bernard and Elizabeth Ganje. Visitation: Wednesday, August 3, 2011, from 5-7 pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND.
