Michael Dustin Whiting 1978 - 2003

Michael Dustin Whiting, 24, Minot, died Friday, March 7, 2003, in Minot.

Michael was born October 23, 1978 at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, the son of Michael and Lynda (Thomas) Whiting. He spent the early years of his childhood in Houston, Texas and moved to Rolla, North Dakota with his mother when he was twelve.

Dustin attended high school in Becourt and Minot and earned his GED in Minot in 2001. At the time of his death, he was enrolled at Minot State University, where he was working on a degree in Addiction Studies. He had hoped to help other troubled youth who struggled as he had.

Dustin was very creative and artistic. He enjoyed listening to music, playing his guitar, and writing songs and occasionally, poetry. Dustin was always friendly and willing to help anyone. Dustin was united in marriage to Charity Strader on July 12, 2001. His dream for a family came true on May 29, 2002, when his daughter, Cashmir Princess was born. Dustin was an excellent father and delighted in caring for his baby girl.

Survivors: Wife, Charity, Minot; daughter, Cashmir Princess Whiting, and step-son, Carter Eslinger, both at home; mother, Lynda DeCoteau, Minot, and father, Michael Whiting, Amarillo, TX; brother, Zachary Whiting, Houston, TX; paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Whiting, Stuart, FL; paternal grandfather, Charles Whiting, Phoenix, AZ; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Doris and William Thomas.

Funeral: Friday, March 14, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, noon to 5:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Rosary recitation: Friday, March 14, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: A private burial will take place at a later time.
