Myrtle C. Whitfield 1915 - 2011

Myrtle Whitfield PhotoMyrtle C. Whitfield, 96, Mohall, formerly of Minot, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 in a Mohall nursing home.

Myrtle Christina Whorley was born on December 5, 1915, a daughter of William and Emma (Sandquist) Whorley on the family farm in Freedom Township, south of Minot, ND.  She was raised and educated in the area.

On October 8, 1935, Myrtle was united in marriage to Robert Whitfield in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot, where she worked as a nurse’s aide for St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Robert died July 16, 1984. Following his death she continued to reside in Minot.  On May 21, 1998, she married Clyde Waters.  They lived in Minot and Malta, MT. He died April 2, 1999.

Myrtle was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active with the Alter guild and ladies circle.  She was also a member of a homemakers club, the Rebecca’s, and Women of the Moose.  She enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

She is survived by:
                Children: Robert (Erma) Whitfield, Leadville, CO, Ruth Metzger, Auburn, WA, and Goldie (Jim) Abel, Minot; eight grandchildren: Michelle, Roberta, Christopher, Bonnie, Mary, Penny, Tina and Brandon; nine great-grandchildren: one great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert and Clyde, two sons Roy and Thomas, three grandchildren; one great grandson and all of her siblings.

Visitation:  Tuesday, January 10, 2012, from 2-7 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 10 am at Thompson Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
