John J. "Jack"
Westlake 1930 - 2009 Jack was born January 17, 1930 in Kenmare, ND, a son of Cecil and Della (Harris) Westlake. He was raised in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1948. Jack joined the United States Marine Corps on November 15, 1951. He served until his honorable discharge on November 5, 1953, when he returned to Kenmare. On September 14, 1952, Jack married Charlotte Marie Kolbo in Kenmare, ND. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Kenmare. In April of 1954 he began employment at Farmers Union Oil Company in Kenmare, where he worked for over 50 years until his retirement in January of 2006. Jack's wife Charlotte passed away on January 16, 1995. Jack's grandchildren were very special to him and he enjoyed the times spent with them. He also enjoyed attending all sporting events and was awarded the "Super Fan" award from Kenmare High School. He enjoyed caring for his yard and taking drives around town. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who will be deeply missed. Those who shared in his life, children, Jon (Holly) Westlake, Kenmare, ND, Lucinda "Cindy" (David) Zieske, Fargo, ND, Gregory "Chug" (Sandy) Westlake, Kenmare; seven grandchildren, Kristen (J'Patrick) Fahn, Bismarck, Danielle (Kirk) Hotvedt, East Grand Forks, MN; Dr. Michael (Monica) Zieske and Lynne Zieske, all of Westminster, CO, Tyler (Lindsay) Westlake, Kenmare, Tanner and Trevor Westlake, both of Grand Forks, ND; two great-grandchildren, Carsen and Abby Westlake, Kenmare; brother, Dick Westlake, Minot; sisters, Eva Hass, Bowbells, Sylvia Evenson and Joyce Westlake, both of Kenmare; numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his parents, Cecil and Della; brother, Joseph Westlake and sister, Fern Yale. Funeral: Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation: Tuesday, (today) February 3, 2009, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare and Wednesday one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare, ND in the spring.
