Samuel Carl Wenzel 1915 - 2003 Samuel Carl Wenzel, 88, 1721 5th St. SE, Minot, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at his home. Samuel was born February 28, 1915, in Pratt Township, Eckman, ND, the son of Reinhold and Molly (Beach) Wenzel. He was raised and educated in the Eckman area. Sam entered the United States Army and served as platoon sergeant during World War II in the Southwest Pacific, and held the rank of technical sergeant. He married Vivian Ehlke on November 15, 1946, in Minot, ND. He farmed in McHenry County all of his life, retiring in 2001. Samuel served as director on the Deering Farmers Coop Elevator Board. He also served as President and Financial Secretary for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Upham. In 1986 Sam and Vivian moved to Minot. He was also a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Minot. Sam was a very gentle and patient man. He loved his family dearly. He loved farming and playing the accordion. He also loved playing cards and listening to his records. Survivors: Wife, Vivian, Minot; sons, Dan and Kevin Wenzel; daughters, Deb O'Connell and Colleen Lapp, all of Minot; grandchildren, Tera and Tawnya Wenzel, and Trisha Gould, all of Fargo, Keri Held, Minot, Chad O'Connell, Fargo, Katie Wenzel and Samantha Lapp, both of Minot; one great-grandchild, Mason Gould, Fargo; sister, Bertha Hackett, Minot, and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Edward Moldenhauer, Bottineau. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ewalt Wenzel; sisters, Amanda Kunkel, Freda Feller and Hattie Moldenhauer. Funeral: Saturday, May 10, 2003, at 2:30 p.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Friday, from noon to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
