John Weninger 1926 - 2003

John Weninger, 76, 900 33rd Ave. SW #20, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in a Minot Hospital.

John was born on July 20, 1926, in Balfour, ND, the son of Clemens and Mary (Steier) Weninger. He was reared and educated in Granville, ND. He went to work for the Mandan Creamery in Minot in 1943 until he entered the US Army during WW II in the spring of 1944. Upon his discharge, he moved back to Minot where he worked for Westlie Motor Company until 1950 when he went to work at the Veteran's Hospital in Minot as a pipe fitter and plumber. On August 2, 1947, he married Grace Marie Peterson at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Granville. He retired in 1982, when it was known as John Moses Air Force Hospital after 32 years of service. He also worked part time for Drawz Heating installing furnaces, retiring in 1982. After retiring he decided he liked to keep busy and returned to work at Behm's Heating again retiring in 1996. The last four years he was care-giver for his wife of 55 years, Grace who passed away in February of 2003.

John was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the American Legion all of Minot, ND.

John loved to play the accordion read western books and watch western movies.
He was an accomplished woodworker and he could fix any broken item. John and Grace volunteered at Our Lady of Grace food pantry for many years. He was a loving husband and a devoted family man.

Survivors: daughters, Mary (Terry) Mills, Everett, WA, Sharon (Richard) Anderson, Donna (Roger) Erickson, Patricia (David) Getzlaff and Kathleen (Don) Jensen, all of Minot; son, John W. (Gwen) Weninger, Milwaukee, WI; 11 grandchildren, Desiree (Matt) Green, Chad Anderson, Shannon Anderson, Waylon D. Getzlaff, David W. Getzlaff, Crystal Getzlaff, Justin Satterfield, Jaclyn Satterfield, Erika Jensen, Tyler Jensen and Amy (Don) Greene; seven great-grandchildren, Jorden Schoenhofer, Alexandra Schoenhofer, Austin Greene, Sierra Greene, Caleb Anderson, Braden Anderson and Dawson McGarry; brother, Al Weninger, and sister, Dorothy Arnott, both of Minot; brother-in-law, Stanley (Donna) Peterson, Redmond, OR; sister-in-law, Meredith (Leo) Schumacher, Mesa, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemens and Mary (Steier) Weninger, wife, Grace and an infant brother and sister, Elizabeth and Joseph.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, May 19, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Granville Community Cemetery on Monday, May 19, 2003 at 2:30 p.m.

Visitation: Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
