Marlys Weltikol 1940 - 2010

Marlys Weltikol PhotoMarlys Weltikol, 69, Minot, died Saturday, August 28, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Marlys Fjeld was born on October 10, 1940, a daughter of Ingvald and Agnes (Nikolayson) Fjeld, in Minot, ND.  Her mother passed away in 1948 when Marlys was just 8 years old.  She had one sister Maybell who passed away in 1961.  After her mother passed away her aunt and uncle Florence and Brown Fjeld took her in and raised her.  She had two adopted sisters Janice and June.  She was raised in the South Prairie area and went to a one room school house through the 8th grade, then came to Minot where she attended Dakota Lutheran Academy then went to Minot High and graduated in 1959.

Marlys met and married Loyed Weltikol on March 2, 1963 and to this marriage a daughter was born, Christi.  She started working at the Clarence Parker Hotel and from there to the Elks Lodge where she worked for 20 plus years.  She had to retire early because of ill health.

Marlys entered Trinity Nursing Home on July 1, 2003 and has been there up to the time of her death.

She was blessed to have one grandson who she loved with all her heart.  She was very proud of him and he could not do any wrong in her eyes.

Those who shared in her life: daughter: Christi (Warren) Malcomb, Minot; grandson: Scott (girlfriend  Ashley) Malcomb; adopted sister: June Votava and her extended family Vicki Adams, Lois Billehus, Connie Stammen, Larry and Alice Lang, Judy Steeve and Mary Lentz; along with the staff of 3 east at the nursing home and the KDU staff; brother-in-law: Gilbert Weltikol Jr., Minot; sisters-in-law: Berniece Fisher, Idaho, Pat Weltikol, Minnesota, and Delores Weltikol, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Ingvald and Agnes Fjeld, sister, Maybell Fjeld, husband, Loyed Weltikol, adopted sister, Janice Krueger, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 1, 2010, from 2-5 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Funeral Service: Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:30 at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

Following the funeral service, everyone is invited to join the family in the rear of the chapel for coffee, bars and fellowship.


The Weltikol family would like to thank everyone, especially Dr. Saffarian, the ICU and ER staff at Trinity Health for the wonderful care they gave Marlys in the hospital. Your many acts of kindness shown to us will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Marlys.
