Loyed H. "The Old
Goat" Weltikol 1935 -
2008 Loyed was born May 11, 1935 in Berthold, ND, a twin son of Gilbert and Addie (Howard) Weltikol, Sr. He was raised with eight brothers and three sisters and educated in Berthold. He attended school at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton majoring in auto body. He served in the United States Air Force from February 18, 1954 to July 8, 1957. He was honorably discharged and returned to Minot. While in Minot, Loyed worked at the CP Hotel, Sorenson's Construction, the American Legion, the Officer's Club at the Minot Air Force Base and at Minot State University as a custodian. He also helped with the construction on the Roosevelt Park swimming pool. He was forced to retire at a very young age due to ill health. Loyed married Marlys Fjeld on March 2, 1963 in Berthold, ND. They made their home in Minot. He really loved his wife, daughter and family. He was very proud of his grandson and was looking forward to watching him race in the Enduro at the North Dakota State Fair this year. His wife's cousin, Janice Krueger was the one that gave him the nickname "The Old Goat" and from that day on he was known by a lot of people as "The Old Goat." He also loved going in the semi with his son-in-law. He loved playing cards, bingo, making "Cross in my pockets" out of plastic canvas and visiting with family and friends. Loyed and his wife have made their home at Trinity Homes in Minot for the past five years. Those who shared in his life, Wife of 45 years, Marlys, Minot; daughter, Christi (Warren) Malcomb, Minot; grandson, Scott Malcomb; brother, Gilbert Weltikol, Jr., Minot; sister, Berniece Fisher of Idaho; sisters-in-law, Laura Weltikol, Minot, Pat Weltikol of Minnesota and Delores Weltikol of Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Loyed was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Addie Weltikol, Sr.; sisters, Clara Bahl and infant sister, Bertha Weltikol; brothers, Albert, Gladwin, Bennie, Chester, Norman, Donald, Edwin and twin brother, Floyd Weltikol; sisters-in-law, Shirley Weltikol, Ann Weltikol, Myrtle Weltikol, Maybelle Fjeld, Alice Weltikol; father and mother-in-law, Ingvald and Agnes Fjeld; and four brothers-in-law. Funeral: Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot. Visitation: Tuesday, (today) July 8, 2008 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. Officiant: Rev.
