Edward B. Weigel 1918 - 2011
Edward B. Weigel, 93, Minot, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, surrounded by his family at a Minot hospital.
He was born on September 5, 1918, near Orrin, ND, a son of Benhard and Katherine (Ehli) Weigel. He was raised and educated in the Orrin area. Ed was united in marriage to Martha Hager on October 20, 1941. Ed and Martha were parents to six children.
Ed served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, including the invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a switchman/brakeman, retiring in 1981 after 33 years of service. Ed and Martha spent their retirement years at their cabin at Strawberry Lake near Velva, ND, and in Mesa, AZ during the winter months. More recently, Ed and Martha were residents at Brentmoor Assisted Living and at the Trinity Homes in Minot, where Martha still resides. Ed loved to travel, but really loved to fish. He was always trying to get that one big Northern Pike that he knew had to be there.
Ed had been a member of the Strawberry Lake Association, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the VFW and the United Trainmen’s Union.
Ed loved to spend time with his children; Sharon (Jim) Kapfer of Minot, Dianne (Curt) Pellett of Fessenden, ND, Dave (Heidi) Weigel of Maryville, MO, Gary Weigel of Walker, MN, Barry (Darla) Weigel of Minot, and Doran (Cyndee) Weigel of Minot.
Ed is survived by Martha, his wife of nearly 70 years; his children; 11 grandchildren, Steve Kapfer, Kathey Lewellyn, Paula Mikkelson, Penny Zinke, April Graham, Halie Weigel, Miranda Weigel, Chad Weigel, Shila Wahlstrom, Angela Darveaux and Melissa Hest; and 19 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Ed is also survived by one brother, Buddy Weigel of Barrow, GA. He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Ray, George, Tony and Dan; sisters, Isie Schmitz, Rose Heilman, Katie Lamm and Lilly Schmidt; and his parents.

Funeral: Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, September 30, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot .
