Marie Weber 1909 - 2003

Marie Weber, 93, a long-time resident of Glenburn, passed away February 16, 2003 in Minot.

She was born November 21, 1909 in Glenburn to John J. and Cora Belle (Cheney) Winderl. The family's connection to North Dakota began in 1901 when her father came to the Glenburn territory. Marie graduated from Glenburn High School and attended Minot State College and North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Lyle V. Weber and Marie Winderl were married in Glenburn June 21, 1934. They both were very active in the community. Lyle died December 4, 1979. For many years Marie was the oldest known resident of Glenburn who was actually born in the town and still made her home there.

Marie was a woman of many and varied interests. Her love of Glenburn and the preserving of its history for future generations was a major passion. She spent many days at the ND Heritage Center in Bismarck researching the town's history. She also was known for her flowers and enjoyed her association with the NDSU Research Extension Center. The center would send her various plant specimens to test how they would grow in the Northern Great Plains climate. In addition, Marie was very knowledgeable in many categories of antiques. Her interests in antiques were extensive and included porcelain, china, pottery and glass. As she often said, she was a collector, not an organizer. Even though Marie was focused on North Dakota she also had a keen interest in the rest of the world.
