Gerdius Watterud 1922 - 2009 Gerdius Elsie Granrud was born January 20, 1922, a daughter of Gerhard and Gertrude (Dewing) Granrud, in Flaxton, ND. She was raised and educated near Columbus. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Columbus High School in 1940. After graduation, Gerdius went on to school in Minot, where she obtained her standard teaching certificate. She began her teaching career south of Larson at Keller Township and also taught north of Columbus at Fortun Township. While she was teaching there, Norman G. Jenson approached her to work for him. She became his first secretary at his brokerage firm in Portal. Mr. Jenson had also been Gerdius's grade school teacher. Gerdius married Myron Watterud, the love of her life, on June 23, 1946. Their first home was south of Larson. They continued to reside there until buying a farm northeast of Columbus, where they resided until taking over the Border Triangle Club in Larson. They owned and operated the Border Triangle Club for 20 years. In Gerdius' earlier years, she was active in functions such as Circle, Homemakers club, and Ladies aid. She remained active at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, up until her illness. Gerdius was no stranger to hard work. She held many banquets for class reunions, family reunions, wedding receptions, Christmas parties, and also kept on top of the cooking for her customers in the steakhouse. It was common to see a customer stop in the kitchen to tell her hello. She was happy to have other functions too. She had a rummage sale for the neighborhood to bring all their treasurers to buy and sell. The community enjoyed it so much that Gerdius made this an annual event. She also enjoyed having her family around her. She would not hesitate to make a big meal for her family and friends. Gerdius always made time for her grandchildren, whom she adored. Myron and Gerdius made sure to take time out for themselves and traveled not only in the United States, but abroad to Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. They enjoyed each others company and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Gerdius' family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Swenson and the staff at Trinity Homes in Minot. And a heartfelt thank you goes out to Pastor Dan Chell from Our Redeemer's Church in Minot, for being there with the family during her last days. Myron and Gerdius' granddaughter, Dawn, who was adopted at the age of four, had a special place in Gerdius' heart.
