Donald Arthur Wangen 1933 - 2002

Donald Arthur Wangen, 68, of Crookston, MN, died Wednesday morning, May 15, 2002, at the Riverview Hospital in Crookston.

Don was born at Harvey, ND, on June 22, 1933, the son of Lloyd and Lillian (Bakke) Wangen. He grew up in Harvey and was a 1952 graduate of Harvey High School. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 22, 1952. He served in the Korean conflict and received several awards and medals, including the Korean Service Medal with one cluster, the Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Service Defense medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He recently received the Korean Service Medal that was specially issued by the Korean Government. After his honorable discharge on August 17, 1954 he returned to Harvey. On June 22, 1957 Don was united in marriage to Beverly Olson. He began his employment with the Ottertail Power Company that same year. Don's job brought about several moves for the family from Devils Lake, North Dakota to eventually coming to Crookston in 1968. After thirty-eight years of dedicated service to Ottertail he retired in 1995. He was a life-member of Crookston V.F.W. Post # 1920, and belonged to East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157. Don will be lovingly remembered, and sadly missed by his family and friends.

Loving family members include his wife of forty-four years, Beverly; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce and Peggy Wangen, and Brad Wangen, all of Crookston, MN; six grandchildren, Coty, Casey, Lexy, Aaron, Justin, and Kaylee; his mother, Lillian LaCoe of Minot, ND; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Pat Sullivan of Minot; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Don was preceded in death by a son, Barry; his father, Lloyd; his step-father, Lawrence LaCoe; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Wangen.

Memorial service: Monday, May 20, 2002, at 11:00AM, at the Oak Valley Lutheran church in Velva, ND.

Visitation: Registration will be on Monday for one hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Inurnment will be in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bergen, ND.
