Dr. Robert G. Walsh, Sr. 1921 - 2010 Robert Graham Walsh was born October 28, 1921, in Newark, New Jersey, to William and Elsie (Ceres) Walsh. He received his elementary and secondary education in Irvington, NJ. After graduation in 1940, he worked in the jewelry business until he enlisted into the armed services in 1943. He chose the Navy and was sent to the Boston, Massachusetts Radio School for possible North Atlantic Duty but was chosen for the Navy V-12 program instead and was sent to Yale University. Later he was directed to Berea College in Kentucky, then to the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. He served as part of the amphibious forces during World War II. Robert married Kathleen Frances Park at the Star & Sea Chapel in Key West, FL, in 1947. During the Korean War, he served at the naval air station in Guam and then later in Charleston, SC. After serving in the navy, he received an honorable discharge and retired in Norfolk, VA, where he taught science in the junior high school for three years. He received a bachelor degree at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and his Masters Degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He later completed his Doctorate Degree in 1975 at the University of North Dakota. He was recruited to teach all grades of science at Model High School at Minot State College. When Model High School was closed, he transferred to Minot State University and taught geology and earth sciences until he retired in 1985. He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, and the Minot State University Alumni, both of Minot. Surviving family includes: wife, Kathleen, Minot; his daughters, Christine Walsh of Bradenton, FL, Patricia (Russell) Finney of Truth or Consequences, NM, Theresa (Dennis) Lorence of Tampa, FL, and Lorraine (Tom) Huntley of Great Falls, MT; his sons, Robert (Dinah) Walsh, Jr. of Salem, OR, Michael (Gail) Walsh of Minot, ND, and Daniel (Kathy) Walsh of Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Walsh (Sister Roberta) of Bronx, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
