Bert E. Wahlund • 1908 - 2005 Bert E. Wahlund, 97, Kenmare, formerly of Minot and Coteau, died Friday, December 16, 2005 in the Kenmare hospital. Bert was born June 11, 1908, in Coteau, ND, the son of Peter and Edith (Linstrom) Wahlund. He was raised in Coteau and attended Coteau elementary and high school. Bert worked on the family farm until 1933. On July 30, 1933 Bert married Estella Elizabeth Sparks in Bowbells, ND. They lived in Coteau and in May of 1934 Bert started work for the Farmers Elevator Company in Coteau. He managed the Coteau elevator until retiring in 1966. He was proud of his accomplishments during his term at the elevator. Bert was active in community affairs, being a member of the Coteau Dramatic Arts Society, which was well known for home talent plays. He was a member of the Coteau School Board and he served as Ward Township treasurer and township clerk. He was treasurer and on the board that edited a book entitled, "Pioneers and Progress," a book about Burke County, spanning the years from 1896 to 1972. Since retiring Bert kept busy taking care of his farming interests, traveling, fishing, attending sporting events, working for neighbors during the busy seasons and occasionally he worked at the elevator. In the early 90's Bert and Estella moved to Minot. Estella died on July 17, 1999. Bert was a member of the United Brethren Church, Kenmare where he was baptized and later was a member of United Methodist Church, Coteau, where he held offices for several years. He was currently a member of United Methodist Church in Bowbells. Bert was proud of his family, which consists of, Son, Larry (Edwina) Wahlund, Minot; five grandchildren, Jay (Carla) Wahlund, and their children, Brecca, Jaden, Paxten, Allie and Abbie; Nancy (Dean) Ziegler, and their children, Justin, Kristin and Kelsey; Janet (Brian) Hornecker, and their children, Ryne and Alexa, all of Minot; Susan (Lenny) Rodin, Kenmare, and their children, Hunter, Jacob and Brooklyn; Jon (Norma) Wahlund, Chandler, AZ, and their son, Peyton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Estella E. Wahlund; infant daughter, Faye Wahlund; his parents, Peter and Edith; sisters, Alice Olson and Mabel Skalicky. Funeral: Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Bowbells, ND. Visitation: Tuesday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND and Wednesday one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: Little Butte Cemetery, Coteau, ND.
