Josephine Vooge 1913 - 2003

Josephine Katherine Vooge, 89, Kenmare, died Friday, October 24, 2003, in a Kenmare hospital.

Josephine was born November 11, 1913, in Bowbells, ND, the daughter of Gerhard H. and Barbara Ann (Voltz) Wilkes. She was reared and educated in Bowbells. Josephine worked at a young age doing housework and also helped in harvest cook cars. She met Martin Vooge when she was a waitress in a café in Bowbells. On September 24, 1933, at the age of 19, she married Martin Vooge. In 1936, they moved to Kenmare, where her husband was an electrician and owned and operated Kenmare Electric. He passed away on October 5, 1993. Josephine continued living in Kenmare for her remaining years.

Josephine loved to bake and cook. She prided herself on her homemaking skills and always had the coffee pot on and goodies for the guests. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kenmare and the ladies aid at the church.

Survivors: Son, Robert Martin Vooge, Scottsbulff, Nebraska; daughter, Janice B. Mardon, Kirkland, WA; five grandchildren, Natalie Schmidt, Jaysen (Jay) Vooge, Susan Cavanagh, William Mardon and Merrilee Mardon; six great-granchildren, Nicholas and Jack Mardon, Alexis, Liam and Sophia Cavanagh and Andrew Schmidt; brother, Herbert Wilkes, California; sister, Elizabeth Bogus, Edmonds, WA; numerous nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; infant daughter, Linda Rosalie, her parents, Gerhard and Barbara Wilkes; twin brother, Joseph Wilkes, and brothers, Raymond and Vincent Wilkes.

Funeral: Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at 1:00 p.m., at United Methodist Church, Kenmare, ND.

Visitation: Monday, October 27, 2003, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND.

Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.

The family prefers memorials to the Kenmare Community Hospital or the Baptist Home, both Kenmare, ND.
