Richard "Dick" Vogel, 80, 514 11th Ave. NE, Minot, ND, died Monday, January 15, 2007, in a Minot nursing home.

Richard William Vogel was born on December 30, 1926, the son of Aloys and Romona (Huerung) Vogel in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in St. Cloud, and graduated from Cathedral High School.

He enlisted in the United States Army on March 26, 1945. He proudly served his country in Germany with the 50th Ordinance Division during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1946.

Dick married Lorraine Siverling on April 12, 1950, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. They made their home in Minot where he worked for the Great Northern Railroad and later the Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer for 40 years. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. He belonged to the United Transportation Union where he served as a legislative representative for 32 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #26, and the legion 40&8, VFW Post # 753, and the World War II Last Man's Club, all of Minot. He took pride in helping and serving his fellow man.

Dick was an avid fisherman. He liked fishing in both the summer and winter seasons with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his friends and enjoyed fishing in Minnesota with his relatives. His boat was his pride and joy.

Surviving family includes: wife of 56 years, Lorraine, Minot; son, Rick (Brenda) Vogel, Minot; daughters, Becky (Steve) Monsam, Minot; and Bonita (Frank) Salatto, La Mirada, CA; grandsons, Chuck Salatto, Robert Salatto, and Ricky Vogel; granddaughters, Angela Monsam and Jessica Vogel; brothers, Alfred (Elaine) Vogel, Avon, MN, Ralph (Mary Ann) Vogel, St. Cloud, MN, Raymond (Arlene) Vogel, Goodhue, MN, and Louis Vogel, St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Marcella Thies, Minneapolis, MN, Mary (Wally) Backes, Cold Spring, MN; and Jane Palmershime, St. Cloud, MN; brother-in-law, Louie Siverling, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brother, Robert Vogel; and sisters, Leora Winkelman and Lorraine Preuser.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Thursday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, or the Scleroderma Foundation, 89 Newbury St., Suite 201, Danvers, MA, 01923.
