David W. Vogel 1944 - 2010

David W. Vogel PhotoDavid W. Vogel, 65, Velva, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in a Minot Hospital.

David was born on June 8, 1944 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Frank and Marie (Giovannoni) Vogel.  David was raised and educated in the Bismarck area.

On November 3, 1979, David was united in marriage to Shirley J. Anderson in Bismarck, ND.  They made their home in Bismarck until moving to Minot in 1982.  David and Shirley had three amazing children together.  The family made many memories on the farmstead north of Sawyer, the family made the move from the “big” city (according to David) of Minot in 1990.  Memories that  will continue to carry on for all the years to come.  David enjoyed the wide open space on the farm, he didn’t have to worry about what was going on around him.

Throughout the years, David taught all of us the ethics behind being a good worker.  He was determined to be the best he could be at everything he did.  David was employed with Leon Manufacturing, Minot Livestock and Lane Vent Fast for many years.   The one job David enjoyed the most was working part-time for Jerry Effertz throughout the years.

David loved his wife and children to the end of the world.  He was the type of person that would give the shirt off his back to someone in need.   Life was about making sure everyone else was taken care of, even if it was him telling us right from wrong.  David loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and “hay season”.  If you had cattle and had a shortage of hay, David would do everything possible to get you what you needed.  David enjoyed getting out and cutting/baling the ditches around the farm and watching Shirley and the kids load the bales in the barn.

David was also an avid card player; Gin and Whist were his favorites.  If you didn’t know how to play, he would take the time to teach you as he enjoyed his many card partners over the years.   David also had a tendency to take a few quarters from you during a quick shake of the dice.   You could never fool David.  He also enjoyed horse shoes, if there was a horse shoe pit around, you would definitely find David playing.

The one thing he enjoyed the most over the past several years was the gardening and canning he and Shirley did together.  David was the “garden monitor”, he knew exactly when the vegetables were ready to be picked and canned.  Amazing times were had in the garden and kitchen, memories that will fill the air forever.

David’s loving family, the one who shared his many memories include his wife of 31 years, Shirley Vogel, along with their children, Dustin (Becky) Vogel, Logan, David Vogel Jr. and Desiree Vogel, Sawyer.  David had three children from a previous marriage: Carla Neary and Annette McCormick, Bismarck and Craig (Ruth) Vogel, Maryland; grandchildren, Kyle, Curtis and Kayla Neary, Kalleena, Karalyn, Kristina and Kendra McCormick, Lauren and John Vogel, Gracie and Olivia Keller; great-grandchildren, Hailee and Karli McCormick and Aspen Neary.  Numerous nephews and nieces.
David’s siblings  Julius (Dorothy) Vogel, Janice (Jerry) Kville, Dale (Gina) Vogel all of Bismarck.  David’s brother/sisters-in-law, Donna Beeter, Dale (Peggy) Anderson all of Minot and Tim (Cindy) Anderson of Granville, ND.

David was preceded in death by his parents (Frank and Marie), father and mother-in-law (Donald and Norma Anderson) and brother-in-law, (Bruce Beeter).
