Rochus "Roy" Voeller, 86, Minot, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Roy was born on March 9, 1922 on the family farm in Pierce County, near Silva, ND the son of Valentine and Frances (Volk) Voeller. He attended school in Reno Valley Township, Pierce County, ND.

On June 19, 1946 he married Magdalena "Lena" Volk in Karlsruhe, ND. Together they had seven children. Roy and Lena farmed in Esmond before moving to Velva. They moved to Minot in 1957, where Roy began work in road construction, first for the Ward County Highway Department and eventually for Schriock Construction. He loved driving heavy equipment, but especially operating the road graders. A back injury forced early retirement in 1976.

Always a farmer at heart he began gardening and was well known in the Eastwood Park area of Minot for his large flourishing gardens.

He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Aerie, both in Minot. He was a longtime member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Roy had been a resident of Emerald Court Alzheimers Unit since October of 2007.

Roy was preceded in death by his son, Victor and a grandson, Shannon; his parents, Valentine and Frances; brothers, Bernard, Walter, Joseph, Edward, Sylvester and John; sisters, Katherine, Clementine and Rosalie.

Funeral: Monday, October 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation Sunday, October 5, 2008, from noon to 5:00 p.m. with the vigil service at 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
