Elizabeth Voeller 1907 - 2003

Elizabeth Voeller, 96, Minot, formerly of Karlsruhe, ND, died Friday, December 05, 2003 in a Minot nursing home.

Elizabeth was born November 24, 1907, the fourth child of eight to John and Theresa (Ziegler) Heilman, on the family farm northeast of Karlsruhe. She was raised and educated in the area, and completed the eighth grade in country school, where she received several awards for reading and attendance.

On July 24, 1928, she married Anton Voeller and they farmed and ranched southeast of Karlsruhe, while raising four children. Anton died on February 21, 1960. She remained on the farm until 1974, when she moved to Minot, where she lived for 26, years. She entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND for a time, and then returned to Trinity Homes in Minot, where she had since lived.

Over her lifetime, Elizabeth made hundreds of quilts and crocheted many afghans for family and friends. She loved to read, dance and play bingo, cards and board games. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends in Canada, Alaska, Washington, Kansas, Minnesota, Hawaii, Washington, DC, and Nevada.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, and later St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. She belonged to the Christian Mothers, Karlsruhe Homemakers Club and Sodality of Our Blessed Lady.

Survivors: two sons, Theodore (Barbara) Voeller, Karlsruhe, and Odell Voeller, Rapid City, SD; two daughters, Lucille Gustin, Bismarck, ND, and Patricia (Ray) Current, Apple Valley, MN: six grandchildren, Dwight (Junella) Gustin, Roxane, Teddy and Steven Voeller, James Current and Sandra (Scott) Pelava; seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Nathan and Jonathan Gustin, Roxanna and Rasmine Voeller, and Bradley and Kelsey Pelava; two brothers-in-law, John Kossan, Bismarck, and Jon Metusalem, Thief River Falls, MN; one sister-in-law, Ann Armstrong, Minot. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Her husband; parents; granddaughter, Debby Gustin; son-in-law, Ed Gustin; brother, John Heilman; and six sisters, Barbara Hager, Katherine Feller, Lena Keller, Theresa Bumcrot, Regina Kossan and Frances Tuchsherer, preceded her in death.

Memorials are preferred to the Germans from Russia Heritage Society, 1125 West Turnpike Ave, Bismarck, ND, 58501-8115, or the donor's choice.

Funeral Mass: Tuesday, December 9, 2003, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot, ND.

Rosary Recitation: Monday, December 8, 2003, 5:00 p.m. at Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Monday, December 8, 2003, from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Karlsruhe, ND
