Raymond "Frenchy" Verreaux 1916 - 2005

Raymond "Frenchy" Verreaux, 88, 310 2nd St. SE, Minot, died Sunday, February 20, 2005 in a Minot nursing home.

Raymond was born March 20, 1916, the son of John and Leah (Goulet) Verreaux, in Crookston, MN. He was reared and educated in Crookston, MN and Grand Forks, ND.

On April 22, 1942, Raymond was drafted into the United States Army. He spent the next three and a half years in the infantry in Europe. Raymond was decorated for Bravery and received the French Unit Citation with award of Criox de Guerre with palm. He was honorably discharged November 11, 1945.

Following his discharge, Raymond returned to Minot to work part time for his brother-in-law, William Kontos Sr. at ABC cleaners for a short time. Raymond then moved to Williston and worked at the State Line Club. He returned to Minot and worked as a bartender at the CP Hotel in downtown Minot.

From there he was employed by Sam Kondos at the Little Dutch Mill Drive in, until ill health forced him to retire. Frenchy has spent the last 25 years at the Milton R. Young Towers. He was a good pool player, and enjoyed watching TV. "Frenchy" will be missed by all.

He was a member of St. Leos Catholic Church, a life member of the veterans of Foreign Wars club, and the American Legion.

He is survived by: Sisters: Lavaine Phegley and Jean M. Pine, both of Portland, OR: Special caregivers, Bob and Kathleen Kondos, Craig (Sherry) Kondos, Mary Beth Meader, Lisa Voiles, and Rob (Shelly) Kondos, Minot. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Leah, and 12 brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Visitation: Tuesday, February22, 2005 from noon until 7:00 p.m.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
