Alvin "Buzz"
Varty 1939 - 2007 Alvin was born on December 21, 1939, in Douglas, ND, at the family home, the son of Ernest and Coyla (Lindbo) Varty. He was reared and educated in Douglas and graduated from Douglas High School in 1957. He entered the US Navy in 1957 and served over seas in Okinawa and South China Sea. In 1960, he was honorably discharged. In 1960, he married June Sesslin. He went to work for the Makoti Elevator and later the Parshall Elevator. In 1966, they moved to Wolseth, ND, where he managed the Wolseth Elevator. In 1973, he moved to Glenburn where he managed the Glenburn Elevator. Alvin and June were later divorced. On November 16, 1979, he married Trudy (Anderson) Jevne in Minot. They continued to live in Glenburn and in 1985 he began work for the Farmers Union Elevator in Minot. He became manager in 1989 and in 1997 retired from the Elevator. During this time he also ventured into the cattle business by purchasing five Longhorn Corriente cows, this led into the developing of the Varty Ranch. Then in 1997, Alvin and Trudy bought a ranch east of Glenburn, which they still own. In 2000, Alvin and his son's bought Evans Septic Tank Service. Buzz was a member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Glenburn. He was an EMT and volunteered for the Glenburn Ambulance Service for 22 years. He was President of the ambulance service for one year. He was also active in playing softball while in Wolseth and Glenburn. He was member of the Glenburn Rodeo Club and also served as president of the club. He team roped for many years on his trusted white horse "Rip" who was as widely known as Buzz. He also enjoyed calving, branding, haying and feeding cows on the ranch. Buzz was known and respected by many people throughout the state of ND. He had an uncanny knack of touching everyone he came in contact with in a special way. His willingness to help people that he knew and even those that he didn't know was unparalleled. Buzz made it a point to know everyone - there were no strangers in his eyes. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. We love you Buzzy!! Survivors: Wife, Trudy Varty, Glenburn; children, Charles (Norma) Varty, Rison, AR, Lonna Jo (Rob) Browne, Burlington, Sandon "Dude" Varty and his girlfriend, Sheila Moffatt, Minot, Vegas (Johnna) Varty, Minot, Dallas (Carrie) Varty, Minot, and Austin (Jenny) Varty, Glenburn; mother, Coyla Varty, Bismarck, ND; eight grandchildren, Natasha, Ryan, Justin and Daniel Varty, Racia and her fiancée, Tyler Weston, Aubrey, and Keenan Browne, and Alexa Varty; sisters, Ivadell (Orlin) Larson, Washburn, Verna (Dale) Ballard, Bellingham, WA, and Deb (Duane) Houdek, Bismarck; brother, Ernie Varty, Bismarck; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest, brothers, Virgil and Edwin, grandparents, Alfred and Ethel Varty and Thomas and Mary Lindbo. Funeral: Friday, January 11, 2008, at 10:30 am at St.
