Lowell Varberg 1939 - 2006

Lowell Varberg, 66, 4201 62nd Ave. NW, Minot, died Monday, March 20, 2006 in a Minot hospital.

Lowell was born on March 30, 1939, the son of Orvan and Helen (Novak) Varberg in Minot.. He was raised in the Eureka Township and graduated from Minot High School in 1957.

After high school, Lowell learned how to become an industrial welder. He married Ruth Gould in Minot. Following their marriage, they made their home in Portland, OR, where he worked as a welder. While in Portland, their son Jordan was born in 1964 Kevin was born in 1969. They were later divorced.

In 1970, Lowell returned to Minot to join his father in the operations of the farm. During the winter months, he would remove snow at the Minot Air Force Base. He continued to farm until he retired in 2002. During retirement, Lowell enjoyed fishing, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and Bohemian lodges, all of Minot, and served as secretary on the Eureka Township board. Lowell will be missed as a loving and supportive friend, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by: his loving companion, Mary Jane Schmidt, Minot; sons: Jordan (Peggy) Varberg, Grand Forks, ND; Kevin (Lisa) Varberg, Minot; grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Brianna, Libby, Abbie and Will; brother: Harlan (Joan) Varberg, Minot; sisters: Betty Lawley, Minot, Marlene (Donald) Roen, Douglas, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Orvan Varberg Jr, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lawley.

Visitation: Thursday, March 23, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: Friday, March 24, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
