Roger Jake Van Winkle 1929 - 2010

Roger Van Winkle PhotoRoger Jake Van Winkle, 81 years old, of rural Minot, passed away Monday November 8, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family and loving wife of 60 years.

Roger was born August 4, 1929 to Jake and Mary Van Winkle of Max, ND.  He farmed with his parents in the Max area until June Erickson and Roger were married in 1950 and resided in Minot. He then began working for Bober Construction for several years and then he began driving truck for Ed Carlson. He later worked for Gravel Products as a supervisor before going to work for Porter Brothers as a mechanic.

After some time, Roger became involved in trucking. He owned and operated Dakota Trucking which later became Dakota Trucking and Scrap. Roger continued driving truck for himself, Market Place Foods and Zaderaka Trucking until he was recently diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. 

He was a member of the River Of Life Assembly of God Church in Minot.

Roger is survived by his wife, June Van Winkle; daughter Sana (Mike Probst) of Minot, and sons Darrell (Sharon) of Surrey, Dwane (Ruby) of Burlington David (Tammy Sanderson) of Minot, Dean (Alecia) of Bismarck. Roger had 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Mary Van Winkle, and sisters Donna Kremer and Jean Beglo.

Visitation will be Friday Nov. 12, 2010 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot from 5 until 7 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at River of Life Assembly Of God Church on Saturday Nov. 13, 2010 at 11 am
