Hope I. VanEckhout 1923 - 2010

Hope VanEckhout PhotoHope I. VanEckhout, 86, Minot, ND, died Monday, April 26, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Hope was born on June 30, 1923, in Bismarck, ND, a daughter of Axel and Millie (Withrow) Lindstrom.   She was raised in Ryder, ND, and graduated from Ryder High School in 1941.  She attended Minot State Teacher’s College where she earned her teaching certificate in 1943.  She taught 2nd Grade in Towner, ND, before her marriage.

She married Charles H. “Bud” VanEckhout on April 10, 1944 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot, ND.  Following her marriage, Hope taught piano lessons.  She also taught dance and baton twirling classes in Ryder, Anamoose, Drake, Bergen, Voltaire, Velva, Stanley, Lansford, Portal, Kenmare and Minot.  She then founded the Van Eckhout Dance and Baton Studio in Minot which she owned and operated until her retirement.  Hope was the director of many of the early Baton Twirling competions in North Dakota.

Hope and Bud spent time living in Salida, CO and Portland, OR before returning to Minot in 1988.  Hope enjoyed and was an avid bridge player, which enabled her to make friends wherever she was living.  Hope and Bud had spent nearly 27 years wintering at Towerpoint Resort in Mesa, AZ.

           
Hope was a former member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ryder, the First Presbyterian Church, Minot, the Multnomal Bible Church, Portland,  and the Towerpoint Bible Fellowship in Mesa, AZ.  She was a member of the National Baton Twirling Association and the National Dance Teachers Association.

Hope is survivied by her daughter Renee Farrell and her husband Dwight “Chipper” of Minot; her granddaughter Felecia Farrell and her fiancé Marcus Harrell; brother Bob Lindstrom and his wife Phyllis of Portland, OR; brothers and sisters in law, Joe and Mary VanEckhout of Makoti, ND, Marie Jacobson of Crosby, ND, Daryl Kramer of Minot, Rosie VanEckhout of Fargo, ND and Della VanEckhout of Minot.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bud” and her parents, and brothers and sisters in law, George and Robert VanEckhout, Felicia Legg and Dolores “Lorry” Kramer.

Memorials are preferred to the Minot Public Schools Foundation.

Funeral:  Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 3 pm until 5 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial:  North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND, on Monday at 3 pm.
