Wilfred was born August 11, 1930 in Norma, ND, to Merreitt and Wilhelminne (Lee) Vandemark.  He attended school in Norma and helped on the family farm while growing up.  At the age of 16 he started working for the Soo Line Railroad.

Wilfred entered the United States Army on May 6, 1953.  He served two years and earned four medals.  He returned to North Dakota, but served with the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on February 15, 1960.

On March 25, 1964, Wilfred married Lila Knower in Minot.  Following their marriage they made their home in Norma for seven years, and then moved to Tolley, ND, where they since have lived.  Wilfred continued working for the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement on December 1, 1987 after 39 years of service.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizens, both in Tolley.  He served on the Tolley City Council for a number of years and was a member of the American Legion, Clarence McCormack Post #195 in Donnybrook, ND.

Those who shared in his life, Wife, Lila, Tolley; children, Paul (Teresa) Vandemark, Mohall, ND, Patty (Mark) Stavem, and Kelly (Kim) Vandemark, all of Tolley; grandchildren, Kristopher and Megan Vandemark, Aaron Hamilton, Kayla, Andrew and Abbey Stavem and Danielle Few Vandemark; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, brothers, Maurice and Erwin Vandemark; sister and brother-in-law, Annette (Chris) Gottschall.

Funeral:  Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley, ND.

Visitation:  Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial:  Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kenmare, ND.
