Garoldine Van Berkom 1920 - 2002

 

Garoldine Van Berkom, 81, 315 11th Ave SW, Minot, formerly of Powers Lake, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at her residence of natural causes.

She was born May 15, 1920, in Foothills Township, Burke County, ND, the daughter of Garold and Inez (Zepp) Greenfield. She was the oldest of eight children. She attended schools in Lignite, ND and Foothills Township School.

She married Carl Van Berkom in November of 1938, in Bowbells, ND. They had three sons and twin daughters. The couple divorced in 1947. She married Arlo Van Berkom in December of 1949. The couple farmed and raised their children, north of Powers Lake. Arlo died on November 11, 1982. Garoldine moved to Minot in 1983, where she lived until her death.

Garoldine was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake and St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Survivors: son, Darwin C. Van Berkom and his wife Christine, Powers Lake, ND; Ronald D. Van Berkom, Mountain Home, ID; daughters, Marilyn E. Cordonnier and her husband William, Palmetto, FL, and Marian E. Kistler, Bradenton, FL; daughter-in-law, Diana Van Berkom, Kenmare, ND; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wallace Greenfield and his wife Mada, Phrump, NV, Ralph Greenfield and his wife Alvina, Lignite, Kenneth Greenfield and his wife Betty and Wilford Greenfield and his wife Connie, all of Shelton, WA; sister, Dorothy Souther and her husband Chester, Kalispell, MT. She was preceded in death by her husband and ex-husband, son, Kenneth Van Berkom, sister, Geneva Skalisky, and brother, William Greenfield.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, April 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Prayer Service: Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at 5 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake.

Friends may sign a register book: Wednesday one hour prior to the rosary and Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Burial: St. James Catholic Cemetery, Powers Lake, ND.
