Orville B. Vaagen 1912 - 2006 Orville was born on June 29, 1912, the son of Sam O. and Amanda (Wierson) Vaagen, in Plain Township, rural Carpio, ND. He was reared and educated in Plain Township, attending country schools. On March 14, 1941, he enlisted into the United States Army, in Fargo, ND. He was honorably discharged for medical reasons on April 28, 1941. On June 18, 1944, Orville was united in marriage to Ruth Elberg at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Greene, ND. They moved to Everett WA, and they worked for Boeing Aircraft Company. In 1946, they returned to Carpio, and in 1948, moved to Glenburn, ND, where they started their farming operation. On the farm, the couple raised small grains and Hereford cattle. Ruth died October 29, 2003. Following her death, Orville continued his interests in farming, always being active in some way. Orville was a member of the Donnybrook American Legion, the Carpio Lutheran Church, and the Farmers Union. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, celebrating his 84th birthday at the Metrodome. He was attending games up until 2001. He was active with the Democratic party, being a delegate at many state conventions. Orville enjoyed watching CNN and keeping up with current events, both local and nationwide. He always enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Kirby and Smokey. He is survived by: He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife Ruth, daughter, Joy Anne Vaagen, sisters: Josie Irene Vaagen, Amanda Asbe, brothers: Bert, Earl, Palmer "Bud", Lloyd, Severine, and brothers-in-law, Lowell Elberg, Merrel Elberg, Wallace Elberg, And Bud Asbe; sisters-in-law, Carol Vaagen, Evelyn Eskelson, Serena Elberg and Elizabeth Vaagen Visitation: Friday, August 25, 2006 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
