Irene Tvenge 1913 - 2006 Irene was born September 18, 1913, the daughter of Louis and Hilja (Bragge) Kannianen, in Hancock, Michigan and moved with her parents to Mullan, Idaho where her dad worked as a miner. The family moved to a farm south of Belden, ND, where she was raised. She attended beauty school in Fargo, ND and became licensed. She opened a beauty shop in Tioga, ND. She met Knute Tvenge who worked for Great Northern Railroad. Knute and Irene were married March 29, 1941 and lived in White Earth, ND. They moved to Minot in 1943 where Irene lived the rest of her life except for several winters in Mesa, Arizona. Irene was a very active member of Bethany Lutheran Church her entire life and was a member of the Esther Circle. She was also a member of Dakota Finnish Society and enjoyed working at the "Finn Booth" at the Norsk Hostfest. Irene loved to garden, sew, bake and was an excellent cook. Irene and Knute raised four children. Knute died in 1997. Irene is survived by her sons, Warren (Delores) Tvenge, Bismarck, ND, and Alan Tvenge, Minot; daughters, Janet (Alan) Kurth, Minot, and Kay (Jim) Marshall, Oceanside, CA; eight grandchildren, John Kurth, Kristin Weninger, Wyeth Tvenge, Britt Tvenge, Brenda Kieffer, Blythe Kieffer, Brian Kieffer and Ursula Tvenge; Seven great-grandchildren, Heather Drake, Ryan Kieffer, Bradley Kieffer, Brent Kieffer, Ian Weninger, Blythe Weninger, and Signe Kurth; great-great-grandchild, Sidney Flores; She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herb and Vern Kannianen; two sisters, Mayme Niemitalo and Lenore Colvert.; and granddaughter, Siiri Tvenge Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Trinity Homes, or Trinity Hospice, all of Minot. Graveside Service: Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 10:00 am at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot. Officiant: Rev.
