Philomena (Phyllis) Tuchscherer
1923 - 2002 Philomena (Phyllis) Tuchscherer, 79, Minot, died Friday, September 13, 2002, in Auburn, WA. Phyllis was born on May 23, 1923, to Joseph and Marcella (Voeller) Marquart and was raised on a farm in Blumenfeld, (Orrin) North Dakota. She attended school in the Smokey Lake School District. On November 26, 1945, she married Joseph Tuchscherer. They raised seven children on their farm in Blumenfeld. Phyllis was very involved with the Christian Mothers organization all of her life. Phyllis was a Master Cook. She started cooking for threshing crews at a very early age and was sought after to cook for numerous weddings. When they moved to Minot in 1971, she turned her love for cooking into a career. She cooked at various restaurants in the area for many years and finished her cooking career at the Bell School in Minot as head cook after 11 years. After her retirement from the Bell School, she cooked for the Norsk Hostfest for several years and ended up being the head chef for the festival. Phyllis was known for and prided herself in being a scratch cooker. A bag of flour, baking powder, some salt, water and presto, a feast fit for kings. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking "favorite dishes" for her children and grandchildren. Her other hobbies included gardening, fancy needle work, Bingo and nickel slot machines. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was also active as a 4-H Leader and with the Farmers Union Camp. Survivors: husband, Joseph, four daughters, Mary Ann Haman (Jerome), Kent, WA, Irene Danner (Jack), Auburn, WA, Linda Racine, Minot, ND and Karla Raine (Dewight), Kent, WA; three sons, Daniel Tuchscherer (Renae), Minot, Clements Tuchscherer (Melody), Enumclaw, WA and David Tuchscherer (Roxanne), Otsego, MN; 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jimmy Tuchscherer, brothers, Peter, Tony, Mike, and Casper Marquart, sister, Josephine and Rose. Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, September 21, 2002,
