Cal "Hub" Traxinger, 83, Fond Du Lac, WI, formerly of Minot, ND, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at the St. Francis nursing home, Fond Du Lac, WI.

His funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, both in Minot.

There will be rosary recitation at 5:00 PM on Tuesday followed by visitation from 5:30-7:30 PM in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

He was born May 20, 1923 in Herried, SD to Joseph Traxinger and Bernadine Hahne. He graduated from Herried High School in 1941 where he was active in band and chorus competitions. He taught as a substitute teacher for one year then moved to California to support WWII efforts at Douglas Aircraft and Mare Island shipyard in Los Angeles and Vajello, CA, respectively. In 1943 he returned to Herried and farmed six quarters of land with his brother John. He then served his country in the Army from 1945-1947. After receiving an honorable discharge as Corporal he worked for the South Dakota Highway Department and Douglas Construction out of Minneapolis until 1950. Prior to marrying Mary Hilt April 10, 1951, in Herried, he attended Maler Barber School and New York Hairdressing Academy from 1951-1952, and graduated in 1952. They lived in Fargo prior to moving to Minot in 1952 where he styled hair for nearly 30 years, starting at Gilmore's House of Beauty 1952-1960, and subsequently at his own shops which included Union National Beauty Salon 1961-1964, and Cal's Beauty Salon 1965-1980. Mary passed away February 13, 1992.

He was active at the local, state, and national levels of the National Hairdressers Association where he served in leadership capacities including President, Vice President, Convention Chairman and participated in numerous styling competitions over a 10 year period. He also was a member of the North Dakota Hair Fashion Committee which hosted educational and competitive styling events; he served as Style Director, President, Vice President and District Deputy. He was a member of many Catholic organizations including St Leo's parent teacher association, Ryan High School building campaign, Our Lady of Grace choir, Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Fatima, and Catholic War Veterans.

Survivors: sons, Steven, Bismarck; Owen, Green River, WY; Richard, Fond Du Lac, WI; Ronald, Minneapolis; daughters, Yvonne Byrd, Grand Rapids, MN; Lucy Traxinger, Seattle; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family prefers memorials to St. Francis Hospice, to masses or to an organization of the donor's choice.
