Elizabeth "Betty" P. Trana 1918 - 2010

Betty Trana PhotoElizabeth “Betty” P. Trana, 91, Granville, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Betty was born October 27, 1918 on the family farm, near Gladstone, ND, to Sebastian and Celestine (Frank) Stoltz.  She was raised on the family farm and attended country school in that area.

On October 15, 1939 Betty married Milton Trana in Dickinson, ND.  In 1941 they started farming northwest of Granville in Kottke Valley Township, McHenry County.  They lived and farmed there for 35 years, until 1976, when they moved into Granville.  Milton passed away on August 29, 2004.

Betty was active in Rising Homemakers Club, and served on the McHenry County Homemakers Council.  She was a 4-H leader for many years, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Granville.  She was also a member of the Granville Senior Citizens, where she spent many afternoons playing whist and pinochle.

Betty had many interests, but her passion was flowers.  She was known in the area as the “flower lady.”  She decorated the church and senior center for many years and also did flower arrangements for weddings.  Her yard was always filled with flowers and she would be delighted if someone stopped to look at her yard.  She was a happy, healthy and independent 91 year old, still living in her own home and still shoveled snow after the Christmas blizzard.
