Opal E. Townsend, 89, Minot, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 in a Minot hospital.

Opal was born on April 12, 1918, the daughter of Jacob and Tessie (Ankenbauer) Schwartz in Kenmare, ND. She attended Kenaston country school located west of Kenmare, ND.
Opal was united in marriage to John McEwen. She later married Jack E. Townsend. They made their home in Minot. In 2004, Opal moved to Brentmoor Assisted Living.
Opal was a strong woman who assisted in the operation of the family farm at Norma, ND. She also owned her own business in Minot for several years, as well as managed businesses for others.
Opal was a member of the Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, baking pies, making doughnuts and cookies for everyone she loved.

Those Who Shared In Her Life:Children: Delores Clott, Spokane, WA, Donald (Suzann) Douthwright, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Jackie (Scott) Brown, Minot; son-in-law: Ronald (Mary Ann) Clott, Kennewick, WA; four grandchildren: Julie Sheldon, Pam Biscomer, Michael Douthwright and Alicia O'Fallon, one great-grandchild Jesse Sheldon; Brothers: Otis Schwartz, MN, A.D. Schwartz, Kenmare, ND, Ralph Schwartz, Mohall, ND; sisters: Evelyn McGillivary, WA; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jay, brothers Earl, Owen and Clarence, sisters Hazel Engleman, Orpha Clark.

Memorials are preferred to the Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot
