Myrtle Minnie Townsend 1904 - 2004 Myrtle Minnie Townsend, 99, Kenmare, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the Kenmare nursing home. Myrtle was born on December 23, 1904, in Dunn County, Wisconsin, to Charles and Minnie Schlough. She spent her younger years on the farm with her parents and four brothers. Myrtle married Ben Townsend in St. Paul, Minnesota in August of 1925. From that union were born, Jack and Barbara Townsend. Myrtle and Ben lived in several towns while Ben was employed as a depot Agent-Telegrapher for the Soo Line Railroad. They operated the Norma café for several years, and she later became the Norma postmaster, which she did until her retirement in 1970. Ben died in 1976. In March 2001, Myrtle entered the Kenmare Hospital/Nursing Home. Myrtle was a member of United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Kenmare. She was very patriotic and proud of her husband, brother and son who served in the United States Navy. Myrtle was an avid bowler. It was one of the biggest joys of her life. She garnered some pins and trophies. She was asked to throw out the first ball at a state tourney in Minot. One year she and team members participated in the Prairie Rose games (Bowling Division). Myrtle bowled into her 96th year. She was a member of the Norma Hobby Club, and years ago belonged to the Federated Club. Myrtle was a caring and loving mother and grandmother. The examples and memories she left us will be celebrated and cherished forever. The family thanks your for sharing and celebrating Myrtle's 99 years. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews in Wisconsin. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; son, Jack; grandson, Jay; her parents; four brothers, and her son-in-law, Robert Jesswein. Funeral: Friday, June 18, 2004, at 4:30 p.m., at United Methodist Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation: Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
