Gertrude "Trudy"
Townsend • 1923 - 2008 Gertrude was born July 16, 1923 on the family farm, near Kramer, ND, the daughter of Gottlieb and Elizabeth (Pfau) Brandt. She was raised in that area and graduated from Kramer High School. Gertrude was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church of Upham. She moved to Vancouver, Washington during World War II, where she worked in the shipyards. She married Arnold "Curly" Soine and to that union they had two daughters, Teri and Rita. They made their home in Seattle and Gertrude worked at Boeing in Renton, WA for several years until her retirement. Her husband Arnold preceded her in death. She married Paul Townsend and he preceded her in death in 2006. Gertrude moved to Minot a year and a half ago, where she since had lived. She was a member of the Eagle's Aerie in Puyallup, WA. She and her husband Paul loved to fish and Gertrude made wonderful smoked salmon. Those who shared in her life, daughters, Rita Soine, Minot, ND, and Teri Rostberg, Medford, WI; siblings, Adeline Halvorson, Martha Stebner and Calvin E. (Beatrice) Brandt, all in Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brothers, Arthur, Albert and Herbie Brandt; sisters, Emma Hamblin and Alma Sessler. A private memorial service will be held at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Cards of condolence can be sent to Rita Soine at 1510 16th
