Madeleine "Maddy" Thompson 1922 - 2003

Madeleine "Maddy" Thompson, 81, Kenmare, died Sunday, October 19, 2003, in the Kenmare hospital.

Madeleine was born February 3, 1922, in Kenmare, ND, the daughter of Raymond M. and Elizabeth (Coffey) Harris. She attended grade school in Baden and Kenmare High School, where she graduated in 1940. While growing up she worked for her parents at their grocery store in Kenaston.

On September 19, 1942, she married Donald P. Thompson, Sr. at Plentywood, MT. They made their home in Coulee, where she raised her family. In May of 1980 they moved into Kenmare. Donald died on January 12, 1999.

Maddy was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Donnybrook, before moving into Kenmare. While in Kenmare she was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and St. Joseph's Circle. She served as president of the Kenmare Hospital Guild, and was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliaries. She was also active in the Kenmare Birthday Club.

Maddy loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events. She was an avid card player and enjoyed playing pinochle, and played in card groups. She loved bird watching and doing cross word and jigsaw puzzles. Maddy enjoyed growing flowers and playing bingo.

Survivors: Daughters, Gaynell (Roger) Lawson, Turtle Lake, Cheryl Nore and special friend Carl Haugan, Lansford, Tamara (James) Frank, Fargo, Delora (Duane) Dockter, Kenmare, Monica Johnson, Fargo, Denise Kay Thompson and her fiancee, Rick Cannon, Grand Forks; sons, Craig (Karen) Thompson, Wilton, ND, Tim (Kathy) Thompson, Donnybrook, Mike (Carol) Thompson, Kenmare, and Donald Thompson, Jr., Kenmare; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Jane Harris, Williston and Marion (Warren) Olson, Turtle Lake; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Thompson, Sr.; son, Blaine Joe Thompson, and her parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Harris.

Funeral: Thursday, October 23, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, ND.

Visitation and Vigil Prayer Service: Visitation will be Wednesday, from noon to 5:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, and 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, ND.

Burial: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
