Irene Thompson 1949- 2011

Irene Thompson PhotoIrene Thompson, age 62, of Granville passed away, Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with lung cancer.

Irene was born in Jordan, Montana to Oscar and Rose (Ziegle) Schlenker on July 8, 1949. She attended school in Jordan and graduated from Garfield County High School.

She married Allen Thompson on March 19, 1971 in Bison, SD. They lived in Dickinson, ND for two years, and then made their home in Granville, ND. They had three daughters and five grandchildren that were the love of her life. She was fortunate to stay at home with her children during their early years. She later went to work cleaning and painting homes.
Irene was very artistic.

Irene enjoyed decorating cakes, painting pictures, and painting pottery. She was an avid gardener and appreciated the outdoors. She was also an excellent cook, whose meals were relished by many. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren
.
She always put everyone before herself. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She will be greatly missed.

Irene is survived by: Husband of 40 years, Allen, of Granville; three daughters: Brenda Anderson and husband Dan of Kalispell, MT; Sheila Petersen and husband Paul of Granville, ND; Teena Hanson and husband Derek of Granville, ND; one brother: Dave Schlenker and wife Ann of Sidney, MT
one sister: Margie Trout of Vandalia, IL; five grandchildren: Cody Petersen, Tyra Petersen, Kayla Hanson, Sage Hanson, and Addyson Hanson; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Irene is preceded in death by: her parents, brother: Milton Schlenker and sisters: Terry Chilcote and  Patsy Ford

Visitation: Thursday, November 3, 2011 from noon until 7 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11am  at First Lutheran Church, Granville, ND

Burial:  Granville Community Cemetery, Granville, ND
