Hertha Emma Thingstad 1916 - 2006 Hertha was born on August 31, 1916, in Yellow Medicine County, MN the daughter of Gustav and Clara (Panzenhagen) Carstens. At the age of 7 months, she moved with her parents to a farm eight miles east of Kenmare in Sauk Prairie Township. She attended country school and graduated from the 8th grade in 1928. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tolley, ND. Hertha moved to Minot in the late 1930's and worked as a housekeeper, nanny and later at Ellison Department Store. At the end of World War II Hertha met and married Iver Thingstad on September 13, 1945, at Seattle, WA. The couple returned to ND and farmed in the Kenmare area until Iver retired in 1956. Iver died on July 22, 1992. Hertha continued to live in Kenmare until her death. Hertha was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, all of Kenmare. Survivors: sons, Curtis Thingstad, Kenmare and Bruce Thingstad, Tolley; daughter, Cheryl Rice, Frediona, KS; three grandchildren; and sister, Dora Goetsch, Kenmare. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver, her parents; four brothers and six sisters. Funeral Service: Monday, November 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare. Visitation: Sunday, November 19, 2006, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
