Gerald Max Thiel • 1927 - 2005 Gerald Max Thiel, 77, Berthold, ND, died Thursday, October 27, 2005 in a Minot nursing home. Gerald was born November 26, 1927 in Wendell, MN, the son of George and Margaret (Marple) Thiel. He attended school in Wendell and later graduated from high school in Morris, MN. On December 3, 1950, Gerald married Kathryn Mae Rund in Fergus Falls, MN. They lived on a farm near Wendell, MN, and moved to Minot in 1957. In 1960, they moved to Berthold. In the late 1950's Gerald began working for John Deere Implement. He worked as a service technician in Berthold, Minot and Kenmare until his retirement in 1992. Kathryn passed away on May 23, 1995. Gerald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold. He served on the church board and sang in the church choir for several years. He was also a member of the Berthold Senior Citizens and the Berthold Lions Club. He served on the City Council and was a Berthold school board member for numerous years. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie, Minot. Survivors: Sons, Terry Lee (Kathy) Thiel, Gordon Paul (Vickie) Thiel, all of Minot, Timothy Mark (Michelle) Thiel, Lefor, ND, Michael Wayne (Joan) Thiel, Casselton, ND; daughters, Renee Louise Thiel, New York, NY, Trisha Lynn Thiel (Bill) Shaeffer, Valley Center, CA, and Barbara Jean Thiel (Dean) Perzinski, Billings, MT; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Gerald was preceded in death by, his parents, George and Margaret Thiel; wife, Kathryn Mae Thiel; son Ronald Thiel and grandson Robert Thiel; four brothers and three sisters. Funeral Service: Monday, October 31, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, ND Visitation: Sunday, October 30, 2005 from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Burial: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND.
