Selma Teets 1931 - 2011

Selma Teets PhotoMemories are all that remain since Selma Teets, 80, of Minot, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 26, 2011.  She fought a long courageous battle with COPD for the past 12 years.

Selma E. Annell was born on April 27, 1931 to Helmer and Carrie (Langhaug) Annell at Palermo, ND.  She attended school in Velva, ND then Sawyer, ND while working for her sister, Elvira and husband Herbert at their grocery store, and a short time at Minot High School.

On August 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vernus Edgar Teets in the First Presbyterian Church in Minot.  They made their home in Logan, ND for 59 years.  They sold their home in 2009 and moved to their current residence in Minot.

She enjoyed making quilts, baking, cooking, crocheting, and making lefse over the years for both family and friends.  She loved to travel to visit family and friends.  Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family.  She began working at the age of 12 as a waitress in Velva.  She continued to work as a waitress at several locations in the Minot area until she became too ill to work.  She loved meeting and serving her customers throughout the years.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Minot.  She was a former member of the Minot Eagle’s Auxiliary, where she and her husband enjoyed dancing.

She is survived by:  her husband of 61 years, Vernus, Minot; children, Roslyn Derheim and Rita (Terry) Peterschick, all of Minot, RaeDel (Gary) Whittemore, Puyallup, WA, Remona (Tim) Mulholland, Sidney, MT; three sisters, Ruth Dygert, Fairfield, CA, Myrtle O’Connell, Salem, OR and Elsie Muzechenko, Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Lettie Annell, New Rockford, ND; nine grandchildren, Mikhael (Jami) Derheim, Minot, Travis (Cristina) Teets, San Diego, CA, Justin Whittemore, Bonney Lake, WA, Stephanie (Josh) Schochenmaier, Fargo, ND, Sara (Will) Bracking, Graham, WA, Whitney Whittemore, Puyallup, WA, Devon and Deon Jensen, Canistota, SD and Skylar Foley, Minot; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Hanson, Minot, and Micah Bracking, Graham, WA; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arvid, Carl and Oscar Annell; three sisters, Elvira Heizelman, Dora Otto and Lillie Berg; son-in-law, Brian Foley; and daughter, Renee Jensen.

Funeral:  Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  Thursday, December 29, 2011, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial:  Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
